This morning, as I was getting ready for our Men’s Coffee Time, I had the feeling that I needed to ask God to lead me to someone who needed prayer. So, as I walked through my kitchen, I asked God to bring someone to me that would spark a conversation and would lead to someone finding the help they needed and prayer to encourage and guide them.
And that was that.
Later in the morning, at the Men’s Coffee, a gentleman came and in and sat down beside me. I was pretty sure he hadn’t come for coffee before. I wasn’t thinking at all about my prayer at home, and we got talking, He started asking questions about where he could get connected, so I began to tell him what The MAN Cell will be doing this year and what God did through it last year, starting with Conquer. His interest was caught and he wanted to hear more.
“So, what is this Conquer thing all about?” he asked.
I explained a bit about the course and how sexual sin and the temptations that we are bombarded with are actually derived from our past, and how you can find healing from Jesus in this area and be renewed. I told him it is only one of the many issues that come from our past hurts and trauma, and that there are many other things it deals with as well.
“Really, like what?” He asked again.
“Well,” I started, “there is so much all stemmed together, but things such as anger, loneliness, being controlling, boredom, angry outbursts…”
He stopped me. “Whoa what, angry outbursts?”
“Well yeah,” I said, “an area in my life that I’ve had to really grow in and be healed of is angry outbursts.” I went on to explain more about Conquer and Seven Pillars, and how much they have renewed my mind this year and have given me the level of freedom from sinful thoughts that I cried out for, for so long. I can finally come against the lie that I have believed since becoming a Christian that I am forever doomed, the lie I just have to suffer the consequences of my past actions until Jesus returns. I told him that Conquer and Seven Pillars of Freedom has changed my life and that I don’t mean that lightly.
As it turns out, just the day before, he had had a big blow up at home with an angry outburst and had been feeling so much shame. This morning, at the same time that God impressed on me this thought to start praying, God also woke this gentleman up and told him he needed to come for coffee. He had said, “That’s a nice thought God, but I’m going back to bed.” But, all of a sudden, acid reflex hit him hard. He jumped up, out of bed, and – long story short – he was up for the day and headed to Men’s Coffee.
By the end of our conversation, we both knew what God was up to. We prayed together and were both so encouraged in our faith! It was encouraging how God spoke to both of us separately to lead us together this morning. We are both God’s children, He speaks to us, and we are not alone in our struggles. Wow!
Well, he was so happy he came and wants to join our cell full-time next month.
So I ask…. Still small voice, acid reflex or both?!
