I started Selah 7 years ago and I no idea how many moms it would eventually impact! I have been married to Kris Duerksen for 15 years and we are the proud parents of 4 amazing kids ages 11, 8, 5, and 3. I’ve been in the parenting ‘business’ for over a decade so I know the tremendous joys and exhausting struggles of this season of life. But just because I lead this ministry does not mean I’m perfect! I want to do this job well though so I am passionate about learning along with my fellow moms what it takes to run the race and run it well. When I’m not ‘on the job’ I love baking, knitting and reading.
I joined Selah in 2013. Initially it was because I love to teach and wanted to serve somewhere in the church. Selah seemed like a good fit but I didn’t really think I needed it myself. I was SO wrong. I am now at Selah because I love to teach and encourage other women in their role as a mom, but also because I need and value the community and support and encouragement of other moms who are in the same stage of life as me. I have two awesome and energetic boys ages 6 and 8. I have been married to Jason for 16 years and one of our favorite things to do together is eat at great restaurants and golf (as long as I don’t talk too much). I wish I had a long list of interesting hobbies or skills to tell you, but really, with two boys and homeschooling, I’m still working on it. Does trying new coffee and coffee creamers count or putting together a good outfit thanks to Pinterest?
I’m a wife, mother and teacher. I’ve been married to my husband, Kevin, for 9 years. We have a 3-year-old daughter named Aneleigh Maëlle and a 1-year-old son named Rhodes. I joined Selah in 2013, when I had my daughter. I quickly felt the importance of having connection and community with other moms. Throughout the last few years, God has put on my heart a passion for the working mom. After several months of planning and discussing with LaDawn, the Selah Working Moms group was created. My role is to lead this group of women through intentionally-planned programming that applies specifically to the challenges (and joys!) of being a working mom. When I’m not at home with my family, you’ll find me in my classroom simultaneously drinking coffee, teaching French and loving on my other 28 (grade 5) kids!
I started attending Selah 5 years ago, and in that time God really gave me a heart for new moms transitioning into the stay-at-home life and all the changes that come with that. Im excited to encourage and lead discussions in the 0-9 month nursery with first-time moms. I’ve been married to my husband, Adam, for 10 years. We have 5 adventurous boys, ages 8, 6, 5, 2 and the littlest one was just born in July 2016. When I’m not doing dishes, laundry, or playing a game of memory for the 80th time that day, you can find me reading while I drink instant decaf (moms gotta sleep!), pinning hilarious parenting quotes, or making snow angels in my favourite season.
I LOVE SELAH! I joined Selah when my second daughter was born 5 years ago at the invite of another mom. The community and teaching that Selah provides is so valuable to me! I am a better mom, wife, and person because of it. I am married to my high school sweetheart Tim for 11 years. We have 3 wonderful children. 2 older girls, Grayson 7 and Myckenna 5, and Cade, our son, who is almost 2. We live in Blumenort, where I am also a hairstylist out of my home which is another huge passion of mine. I love learning new things and meeting new people.
I have been married to Colin for 10 1/2 years and we have 3 wonderful boys aged 7, 5, and 4. I joined Selah in 2013 because I thought it would be good for my oldest son. I realized a few months in that I was the one who needed the community, encouragement, and accountability I receive from Selah. My hobbies apart from Selah are camping and hiking, archery, and reading.
I have been helping out at Selah for almost 6 years now if you can believe it, most recently overseeing the programming for the 3 year olds all the way up to homeschool. I continue to be a part of Selah because I love learning, kids and watching moms succeed! When I’m not at Selah you can find me cooking food at my mom’s cafe, studying hard for school (I can’t believe I’m doing that again), reading this month’s book club pick or drinking tea.
